DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
The University of California, Davis invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Athletics to oversee an NCAA Division I program that is committed to academic and athletic excellence.

The Chancellor seeks a creative leader who is able to formulate and articulate a vision and strategic plan for the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) program that is consistent with the vision of excellence at the University of California, Davis. The Director of Athletics is responsible for the overall direction, leadership and management of the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) program. Oversight includes the management of (23) NCAA Division I sports with more than 600 student- athletes and a budget of approximately $23 million.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated achievements in a Division I athletics program and a strategic approach that closely mirrors the following fundamental principles:

 Places a high priority in an athletic program that values strong connections with the academic community, academic integrity, and academic performance of student athletes.

 A leader with the ability to rapidly garner rapport internally and externally to substantially drive results in all areas of the organization and to develop strong relationships with the key stakeholders.

 A high degree of proven success in an entrepreneurial college athletic environment built on innovative strategies, successful teams, and successful fundraising.

The Director of Athletics will understand market trends and current financial realities to set an aggressive and realistic 3- 5 year vision for the department. Key functions of the position include: development of a multi-year budget and approval of large expenditures; Coordination and leadership of fundraising activities needed to assist with the financial support of the athletics program; Oversee the distribution of funds for the athletic grants-in-aid program; Oversee athletic facilities including maintenance, renovation, and the construction of new facilities; Make final decisions regarding department organization, personnel appointments, policies and administration, supervision and management of buildings, space, areas, and equipment assigned to the athletic program; Supervise and evaluate head coaches and approve schedules of all conference and non-conference intercollegiate athletic contests; Organize and supervise the coaching staff to recruit, schedule and prepare teams for intercollegiate competition, inform and enforce staff members of rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big West Conference, and four other sport conferences in which various UC Davis sports are a member. The Director of Athletics ensures that coaches and athletes maintain strong academic standards which are consistent with the University's mission.

The Director will act as a liaison for the department to the Associated Students of UC Davis (ASUCD), and serve as representative to the NCAA, the Big West Conference, and four other conference affiliations.

ASSISTANT MEN’S & WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD COACH  

Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Director for Men's & Women's Track & Field, the assistant coach will perform assigned coaching duties with the sprints and hurdles event groups at the collegiate level of competition. Principle responsibility will lie with the teaching of technical aspects for the pertinent events. Assist the head coach in the conduct of pre-season, regular season and permissible out of season practices and training programs. Assist in weekly planning, seasonal and yearly training cycles and practice plans; travel and athlete supervision at away meets.

Qualifications
Knowledge of the rules and technical aspects of the sport of track and field. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching techniques, competitive/racing strategies and safety measures necessary for competition at the Division I college level. Division I NCAA coaching experience. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. .

Appointment
Contract January 1st – June 30th, 2012

Compensation
By Agreement (Salary commensurate with experience).
