DAVIS, Calif. - The fifth-annual installment of "The Art of Athletes," organized by swimmer and art studio major Devon Demont, closed its doors after a successful four-day run.
A total of 24 UC Davis student-athletes showcased a range of works, including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, poetry and industrial arts. Friday's opening night also featured a "Meet the Artists" reception, providing visitors with the opportunity to discuss the various works with their creators.
The Art Of Athletes launched during Homecoming weekend of 2009, as running back Brandon Tucker followed the advice of art professor Mike Henderson. In the years that followed, Tucker moved the show from the downtown Log Cabin Gallery to the on-campus Basement Gallery. Previous contributors Kristina Taylor and Amanda Marinac organized subsequent shows in 2012 and 2013.
