May 10, 2017 DAVIS, Calif. - Led by softball, women's tennis, men's golf and men's tennis - four teams that posted a perfect multiyear Academic Progress Rate score - the NCAA's latest Division I Academic Performance Program report proves that UC Davis student-athletes excel in the classroom.
The report, which was released on Wednesday, is based on four-year calculations from the 2012-13 through 2015-16 academic years. The average APR for UC Davis' teams is an impressive 987, which tops the national average of 981.
Eight programs recorded the highest figures in their respective conferences, 13 teams rank among the top two and 16 are in the top three.
Football (981) has now led the Big Sky in each of their five years as a league member with its APR - the second-longest active football streak in the country. UC Davis men's golf (1,000), men's soccer (986), men's tennis (1,000), softball (1,000), women's basketball (990), women's tennis (1,000) and women's water polo (998) were responsible for the Big West's best scores in those respective sports.
Additionally, 11 teams recorded perfect 2015-16 academic year scores: men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, field hockey, women's basketball, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, softball, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams, and measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term. This annual figure gives a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
UC Davis' four programs that achieved perfect multi-year scores were honored last week with NCAA Public Recognition Awards, which are bestowed upon teams that are in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. This total matches last year's school-record awards haul since the NCAA first published its scores 11 years ago.
