UC Davis shines in NCAA's latest academic performance report

May 23, 2018

DAVIS, Calif. - In last week's announcement from the NCAA, seven of UC Davis' intercollegiate athletics programs received a Public Recognition Award for posting a multiyear Academic Progress Rate among the top 10 percent of their sport. Earning honors with a perfect score of 1,000 were men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, field hockey, women's golf, softball and women's tennis.

When NCAA officials released its full Division I Academic Performance Program Report on Wednesday, UC Davis' single year and multiyear scores further highlighted why it is the sixth-ranked public school in the nation.

Of the school's 23 intercollegiate sports featured in this report, 10 held league-high multiyear figures: field hockey (America East Conference), football (Big Sky), baseball, men's golf, men's tennis, softball, women's basketball, women's golf, women's tennis and women's water polo (Big West).

Football has now led the Big Sky in each of their six seasons as a member of the Big Sky Conference with its multiyear APR — the second-longest active streak in the nation.

Three more teams recorded the second-highest APR score in the conference; an additional three programs finished with a top-three figure.

Also included in the NCAA's recent listings were 12 teams that recorded perfect single-year scores: baseball, men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, women's golf, softball, women's tennis, women's track and field, women's volleyball and women's water polo.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams, and measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter. This annual figure gives a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
