DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis once again rose to the top of the Big West Conference in NCAA Graduation Success Rate information released on Tuesday, posting an impressive GSR of 88 percent to lead the league for the fifth straight year and the eighth time in nine years at the Div. I level, it was announced.
Three women's teams â€" tennis, field hockey and gymnastics â€" posted perfect scores of 100 and tied for the highest score in their respective conferences, while women's water polo (93) and volleyball (92), baseball (87) and football (85) had conference-best scores as well.
Overall, UC Davis finished ahead of UC Irvine (87), Hawai'i (83), UC Santa Barbara (82), Long Beach State (82), Cal Poly (80), CSUN (78), Cal State Fullerton (74) and UC Riverside (73). The most recent GSR measures students who entered college between 2006-09 and graduated within six years.
"A quality education at the No. 6 public institution in the country is paramount to our mission in UC Davis Athletics," said Kevin Blue, director of athletics. "It's a tribute to our student-athletes who continue to show not only a commitment to achieving with their teams but in reaching their academic goals as well."
Women's basketball (92) and softball (89) were each second-highest amongst their peers in the Big West while lacrosse (96), soccer (96), and women's cross country/track and field (89) were third. Water polo (86), cross country/track and field (84), basketball (78) and soccer (75) were teams that were third on the men's side.
The football team posted the highest GSR in the Big Sky for the third straight year. It's also led the conference in NCAA Academic Progress Rate â€" which measures student-athlete progress and retention â€" each of the past four years.
