DAVIS, Calif. -  Even though UC Davis' 2018 season opener at San José State is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m., festivities leading up to the first football game of the season will start on Tuesday when Sudwerk Brewing launches its newest beer, Gunrock Lager, and continues the following day when Woodstock's Pizza in Downtown Davis hosts the inaugural UC Davis Coaches Show of the season.

The Sudwerk Dock Store, located at 2001 Second Street, will host the official launch of Gunrock Lager starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The officially licensed beer of UC Davis Athletics is available on draft and in 12-ounce six-pack cans for guests to purchase and taste.

Also available for guests to enjoy is a taco truck and outdoor games.

"It will be a gathering of people celebrating, hanging out and enjoying Gunrock," said Sudwerk co-owner and operations manager Trent Yackzan.

In addition to the Dock Store, Gunrock Lager is available for purchase at home football, basketball games, Raley's Bel Air and Nugget Market in Yolo County, as well as the Davis Food Co-op.

The UC Davis Coaches Show featuring Head Football Coach Dan Hawkins returns to Woodstock's Pizza in Downtown Davis on Wednesday, Aug. 29, starting at 7 p.m. for the first show of the year. Host Scott Marsh, football student-athletes and Coach Hawkins will talk about the Aggies' season opener at San José State, their training camp and the upcoming season.

UC Davis will kick-off the 2018 season on Aug. 30, against the Spartans, before hosting San Diego on Sept. 8 in the first of five home games taking place at Aggie Stadium. With numerous players earning national honors, a slew of new program records and the league's top offense (for the first time in program history), UC Davis enjoyed its most successful season in the Big Sky in 2017 -- the first year of the Dan Hawkins era.
