CHICAGO -  For the first time in program history, UC Davis earned a top 25 ranking in STATS FCS' national poll, thanks to its attention-grabbing victories at San José State and at home against San Diego. In the outlet's latest listing, the Aggies are ranked No. 23.

"I want to thank the fans, supporters of the program and Director of Athletics Kevin Blue for everything they invested in the program. The student-athletes and coaches deserve credit for all of their hard work, which placed this team in a position to earn national recognition" said head coach Dan Hawkins.

"The rankings are evidence that positive things are taking place at UC Davis."

Coach Hawkins' statements took place after the Aggies earned spots in two national preseason polls: HERO Sports and STATS FCS. However, this is the first time the Aggies earned national recognition during the season since the program became a full-fledged Division I program.

This ranking is well deserved since the Aggies are 2-0 for the first time since the 2004 season. The first win took place at San José State on Aug. 30 — the program's third victory over a FBS opponent — with the other taking place last weekend in the team's home opener vs. San Diego.

Against the Toreros, a 2017 NCAA playoff participant that enjoyed a successful run by defeating Northern Arizona on its own turf, UC Davis did not allow USD to cross its 37-yard line at any point in the first half. San Diego's road woes continued throughout the second half as well when it watched the Aggies score 34 unanswered points en route to a 54-21 win over a team that advanced to the postseason in three of the last four seasons, and won its league every year since 2011.

The fourth Farm vs. Farm football game will take place this Saturday when the Aggies head to Stanford for their 11 a.m. game against the Cardinal, a matchup the Pac-12 Networks will broadcast for a national audience.
