OJAI, Calif. – Samantha Hutchison's senior season is off to an outstanding start thanks to an impressive performance at this year's California Women's State Championship. By recording three scores in the 60s, Hutchison finished 15-under and pulled away from a talented field to win the individual title.

Hutchison opened play at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa with a 3-under 69, and finished two shots better in each of the following rounds. After posting a 5-under 67 in the second round, the reigning Big West Conference Player of the Year ended the tournament with a 7-under 65 to win the event.

After opening with a bogey, Hutchison enjoyed a flawless tournament by recording birdies in 16 of the following 53 holes; the final day included seven of those 16 birdies, which helped her finish six strokes ahead of two golfers who finished tied for second.

UC Davis will open its 2018-19 season in Albuquerque at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico. Following that two-day event, which starts on Sept. 10, are three additional fall tournaments: East/West Match Play (Sept. 16-18, hosted by Michigan), Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate (Oct. 5-7, hosted by Denver) and Edeah Ihlanfeldt Invitational (Oct. 9-10, hosted by Washington).

The California Women's State Championship is a 54-hole event open to female California amateur residents. The lowest 100 handicap indexes are taken, maximum 18.0 USGA Index.
