DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team claimed two victories in dramatic fashion, downing Seattle and Pacific by identical scores of 2-1, Friday at the NorCal Kickoff held at La Rue Field. After the day, the Aggies improve to 3-0 on the young season.
GAME 1
Junior Taylor Fitzgerald (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for UC Davis. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
At the plate, the Aggies were paced by junior Anna Dethlefson, who went 2-for-4 with a double. Junior Sarah Starks was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Junior Sarah Nakahara also chipped in for UC Davis, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
Trailing 1-0, the Aggies first put runs on the board in the second inning. UC Davis got an RBI single from Nakahara, scoring Starks from second base.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when UC Davis walked it off on an RBI single off the bat of Polson that plated Dethlefson.
GAME 2
Junior Sarah Reineman (1-0) got the win for UC Davis. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.
At the plate, the Aggies were led by Dethlefson, who went 1-for-3 with a leadoff home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Sommer Kisling furnished a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks.
The Aggies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Dethlefson put UC Davis on the board with a leadoff home run off junior Amiyah Aponte.
Pacific then rallied to tie the ballgame at 1-1, before UC Davis walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on Pacific's error with Starks at the plate that brought home Dethlefson.
Day two of the NorCal Kickoff will begin at 9:30 a.m.
