DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader against Long Beach State on Saturday. The Aggies were edged in 10 innings in the opener, and they dropped the nightcap, 10-2. After the day, UCD moves to 15-10 overall and 2-3 in Big West play.
GAME 1 | Long Beach State 6, UC Davis 4
In a game that needed 10 innings and a duration over four and a half hours, The Beach pulled out the victory, 6-4, in the front end of the doubleheader on Saturday.

Dethlefson led the way offensively for the Aggies, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Bella
Pahulu batted 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Junior
Rylie Costa also contributed, going 2-for-4 for UC Davis with an RBI.
The Aggies were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board.
Dethlefson put the Ags on the board with a leadoff home run on the first pitch she saw in the ballgame.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the third inning, when the Aggies put runs on the scoreboard once again. UC Davis scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of
Dethlefson, which brought the Aggies lead to 2-1.
UC Davis' lead had evaporated by the time the fourth inning arrived and turned into a 3-2 Long Beach State advantage, when the Aggies evened up the game at three. The Aggies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Costa.
The Beach broke the tie and took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when UC Davis got back on the scoreboard. The Aggies added a run on
Pahulu's leadoff homer, tying the score at 4-4. Long Beach State then scored two times in the 10
th to earn the 6-4 win.
Kenedi Brown (8-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on 11 hits in eight innings of work.
The Aggies had their chances though, if it weren't for the excellent defensive play from Sara Olson. The leftfielder robbed
Grace Kilday of a three-run home run and then with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, made a diving grab that would have won the game for the Aggies.
GAME 2 | Long Beach State 10, UC Davis 2
Though they had plenty of opportunities, UC Davis had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 12 Aggies on base in a 10-2 defeat at the hands of the Long Beach State Beach on Saturday.

The Aggies were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. UC Davis scored twice, with one run coming across on
Dethlefson's single. The Aggies were unable to hold the lead, as Long Beach State scored nine times over the remaining five innings to grab the 10-2 win.

Reineman (2-3) came out of the bullpen for UC Davis (15-10, 2-3) and took the loss. Junior
Taylor Fitzgerald started the ballgame, throwing 6.1 innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on seven hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow at Noon.
