Senior pitcher Tom Briner was efficient on the mound in his start Saturday, needing only 79 pitches to shutout Long Beach State. In his third complete game of the season, Briner showed great control of his pitches, throwing 60 of his 79 for strikes and walking none. While Long Beach State managed to put together six hits, Briner faced only three batters over the minimum due to a failed steal attempt and forcing two grounders that turned into double plays.

Melanise Chapman
Track and Field

Junior sprinter Melanise Chapman's performance during the Big West Championships gave UC Davis the boost it needed to edge UC Santa Barbara by 0.50 points and take home the title. Chapman's performances in the 100m and 200m brought her two individual titles, posting times of 11.67 and 24.09 respectively. Chapman also participated in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, helping the Aggies gather third place finishes in both events. With the conference title in hand, the women's track and field team will head to the NCAA West Preliminary Meet on May 24-26.
