Grilling on the Gridiron BBQ Competition
Join UC Davis Football as they host the Grillin’ on the Gridiron BBQ Competition on Saturday, September 21 prior to the home game vs. Portland State. The grills fire up at 3 p.m. on Aggie Tailgate Field.
There are three competition levels for fans to enjoy. The first will be a professional competition among the region's top BBQ chefs. A judging panel will offer awards for the best ribs. The professional food vendors are from Ludy's Main Street BBQ, Big Joe's BBQ and Wicked West Pizza and BBQ. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase food from each of these vendors.
The second competition level is the People's Choice award. Fans who purchase a People's Choice meal package will receive two ribs from every professional food vendor (6 ribs total) and will have the opportunity of voting for their vendor. The final competition is an amateur contest that is open to all UC Davis tailgate spot holders. Every tailgate spot is allowed one entry for their food to be tested by the professional judging panel. The UC Davis Meat Lab will provide ribs for every participant to use for the competition. The winners of all competitions will be announced during the football game immediately following the event.
