Jeff Hogan

Jeff came to UC Davis in 1984 as the Assistant Athletic Trainer when the staff consisted of just two full-time individuals. He assumed the Head Athletic Trainer responsibilities in 1987 and has overseen his staff's growth to its current levels. Prior to UC Davis, Jeff was the Assistant Athletic Trainer from 1981 to 1984 at Santa Clara University in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from UC Davis in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.

He has published an article in the Journal of Athletic Training and was a contributing author to a textbook entitled Athletic Training: Principles and Practice.

Jeff has been a guest speaker at several symposiums and conferences including The German Academy of Applied Sports Medicine Summer Symposium (2004) held in Switzerland, the Annual Sports Medicine Conference (2002) - in Germany - and the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Los Angeles (2001).

He has been honored numerous times by the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and the California Athletic Trainer's Association (CATA). Most recently he was given a NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award in 2007 and a CATA Special Service Award in 2006.

Jeff is married to Jennifer Hogan, has three children: RaeAnna, Brent, and Nicole, and grandsons, Jack and Kale.

Jeff works with the UC Davis football and men's tennis teams.

 


Lisa Varnum MA, ATC

Lisa has been a certified athletic trainer at UC Davis since 1989. She has worked with all 26 intercollegiate athletic teams both on field and in the rehabilitation setting. In addition to her Athletic Training duties, she coordinates the classroom and in-service educational portions of the athletic training internship. She works collaboratively with the other staff members to instruct the student athletic trainers clinically. Lisa feels that working with the student athletic trainers is definitely a huge priority, and she prides herself on the success of each athletic training student upon graduation and employment in an allied health profession.

In addition to her career position at UC Davis, Lisa sits on the managing board for the California Athletic Trainers Association and is a co-author of an article in the Journal of Athletic Training.

Lisa graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Physical Education and has a MA in Organizational Management. She was a varsity athlete at UC Davis in volleyball and springboard diving. Lisa enjoys yard work, gardening, reading and spending time with her family when she is not on the job.

Lisa works with women's basketball, field hockey, and women's water polo.

 

 

 

 

 

Jill Radzinski MS, ATC

 


Jill Radzinski

Jill joined the UC Davis athletic training staff in 1997. Prior to her arrival at UC Davis, she held certified athletic training positions at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, The Colorado College, and Bates College (Lewiston, ME). Jill continues to remain active at the US Olympic level; working and traveling internationally with the USA Short/Long Track Speed Skating Team. She has worked in the NFL with the Chicago Bears as the second female certified athletic trainer in the NFL setting.

Jill shares the classroom instruction role with Lisa Varnum; which has been an instrumental component of the student athletic training internship at UCD. Her clinical viewpoint incorporates functional, multi-faceted rehabilitation programs into the progressive hands-on/manual treatment services offered at UCD. Jill has an avid interest in emergency medicine and applies this in the university setting as well as in the outdoor locale, functioning as a member of the National Ski Patrol with the Lake Tahoe Backcounty Ski Patrol.

She obtained her Bachelors of Science from Penn State University in the Athletic Training curriculum program. While at Penn State, she was an All-American field hockey player. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Richmond, VA, Jill was granted her Masters of Science in Athletic Administration. Jill enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, outdoor activities, and traveling.

Jill works with women's soccer, lacrosse, and women's swimming and diving.

 


Melissa Hughes MS, ATC

 


Melissa Hughes

Melissa has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 1992. She joined the UC Davis staff in 2003 after tenure of seven years at Yuba Community College as the Head Athletic Trainer. Melissa did her undergraduate work at UC Davis, graduating in 1992. She then went on to get her Masters of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Psychology from CSU Sacramento.

Melissa has been involved with many committees and organizations, including the Sports Psychology Program in its early years, through the UC Davis Counseling Center, as the Athletic Training liaison. She has volunteered at the NCAA Track and Field Championships as well as the Olympic Track and Field Trials. She has spent over fifteen years with the Volleyball Festival, Inc., many as a member of their executive board. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and the California Athletic Trainer's Association (CATA).

At UC Davis, Melissa is dedicated not only to the health and wellness of the student athlete, but also in the education of the student athletic training interns. In addition to working a busy schedule in the Athletic Training Room, Melissa enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her family.

Melissa works with men's soccer, gymnastics, and women's tennis.

 


 


Doug Hess
 

Doug Hess MA, ATC

Doug joined the UC Davis Athletic Training staff in 2005. He came to Davis following graduate school at The University of Northern Iowa where he covered baseball, swimming and diving, and golf.

He did his undergraduate work at Upper Iowa University and Iowa Central Community College while playing for the Peacock and Triton baseball teams.

Doug originally hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His lovely wife Mariah recently finished her Masters in Fine Arts at UC Davis.

Doug works with the men's basketball, baseball, and men's water polo teams.

 

 

 

 


Matt Davey


Matt Davey

Matt Davey joined the athletic training staff at UC Davis in 2009. Prior to arriving at UC Davis Matt worked as an NATA Approved Clinical Instructor and faculty member at Humboldt State University. He worked for three years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Davis High School and also spent time with the Oakland Raiders. In addition, he has spent over eight years with the Volleyball Festival, Inc.

Matt graduated from UC Davis in 2003 with a BS in Exercise Science. He is currently finishing his graduate degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training Education from Humboldt State University.

Because of his experience as a student athletic trainer and as a clinical instructor he recognizes the importance of quality clinical experience in the education of student athletic trainers. He thoroughly enjoys teaching and working with students in the clinical setting.

In his free time Matt enjoys backpacking and mountain biking in the summer, snowboarding in the winter and playing soccer year round.

Matt works with football and track and field.

 

 

 

 


Adrienne Wilson


Adrienne Wilson

Adrienne Wilson joined the UC Davis athletic training staff in 2012. Prior to her arrival she spent 2011-12 at UC San Diego working with the Triton women's volleyball and crew teams.

Adrienne graduated cum laude from the University of North Dakota in 2007 with a B.S. in Athletic Training and a B.S. in Psychology. She acted as an athletic training student with the Fighting Sioux women's ice hockey, soccer, and softball teams during her time in Grand Forks. She attended the University of New Mexico and obtained a M.S. in Sports Administration while serving as a GA Athletic Trainer with the Lobo softball and tennis teams. Adrienne also had the opportunity to serve as part of the medical staff for the 2008 ESPN Winter X Games in Aspen, CO.

Following graduate school Adrienne accepted an assistant athletic trainer position at Tennessee Tech University where her primary sport assignment was women's volleyball in addition to coordinating all medical billing and insurance needs for the student-athletes.

Adrienne will be working primarily with the Aggie women's volleyball, softball, and golf teams in addition to advising the student athletic trainers at UC Davis.

 

 

 

 


Molly Gaebler


Molley Gaebler

Molly joined the UCD Athletic Training Staff in the summer of 2012 after receiving her MS in Athletic Training from Plymouth State University. During her time in graduate school, she worked with women's volleyball, wrestling, men's lacrosse, and football. She also worked as a physician extender at The Alpine Clinic in Littleton, NH under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Chen in addition to volunteering with the Boston Athletic Association as medical staff for the 2011and 2012 Boston Marathon and Half Marathon.

Molly did her undergraduate work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she played lacrosse for the Gauchos while working on her Biopsychology and Exercise and Health Studies degrees. She is originally from Berkeley, CA and in her free time enjoys backpacking and river rafting in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.

Molly works with the cross country and track and field teams at UC Davis.
