Butler qualifies to semifinals at Don Kirby Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
Junior transfer Kieana Butler qualified to the semifinal round in the women’s 60m dash for the second time in as many weekends to highlight the second and final day of action for the UC Davis women’s indoor track and field squad at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Prior to Butler’s semifinal qualification, she placed third in the first heat with a 7.63 time, besting the two other Aggie contingents Kierra Davis and Natsumi McGee, both of which clocked in close times of 7.66 and 7.67, respectively. In the semifinal round, Butler ended in the sixth spot under the third heat’s group with a time of 7.64, just one second behind her initial sprint time.

In the 60m hurdles, Xjaedah Williams and Baileigh Akins led the Aggie team of four with equal times of 9.07. This time earned Williams a fifth-place finish in the fourth heat, while Akins garnered a third-place finish in the the sixth heat.

For the 800m run, Shelby Hightower led off the Aggies with a 2:22.6 time, which was good for an eighth-place finish in section 3, while in the women’s mile, sophomore Haley Adel, being the only Aggie contingent in this event, clocked in her time at 5:17.26 to secure her third-place finish in section 3 of this event.

Ending off with the women’s 4 x 400 relay, Aggie team of Flora Oliveira, Mikaela Adolphus, Davis, and McGee finished in third under the section 4 group with a 3:49.95 time. This was the first 4 x 400 relay UC Davis has participated in for the 2018 indoor season, as the Aggies ended up scratching their relay teams at last weekend’s New Mexico Classic.

SAAC COIN DRIVE
Support the UC Davis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Yolo County SPCA during the month of February as the Aggies hold their 11th annual coin drive at all home events. For the fourth year in a row, Big West Conference institutions will donate 100 percent of the funds raised to their designated charities, with the top three fundraising SAAC’s receiving a cash prize toward their SAAC budget. Over the last 10 years, conference members have combined to raise nearly $197,000.
