MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Sophomore Solie Laughlin won two individual championships, set a school and meet record in the 400-yard individual medley, and led off UC Davis' third-place medley relay to highlight Aggie action on the third day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation swimming & diving championships Friday night.

The Aggies held steady in third place with a team total of 385, trailing meet leader Hawai;i at 466 and UC Santa Barbara at 449.5. Pacific sits fourth behind UC Davis with a 323.5 sum, while Brigham Young (302), San Diego (220) and Cal Poly (216) round out the seven-team field.

Laughlin won the 400 IM with a time of four minutes, 10.85 seconds. That surpassed the previous championship benchmark of 4:14.48, set by UCSB's Allie Knight back in 2012; and shattered Heidi Kucera's old UC Davis standard of 4:14.17, set at the 2011 MPSF meet. It also eclipsed the NCAA 'B' qualifying standard of 4:19.39, which Laughlin beat twice at the Hansel Invitational last November.

The second-year humanities student from Ventura, California, later went 53.93 to win the 100 backstroke, becoming just the second Aggie to crack the 54-second barrier. Hilary Hunt holds that school record of 53.68 from the 2014 Mizzou Invitational. Laughlin finished her day with a 54.28 backstroke split in the 400 medley relay, helping the UC Davis crew of Elise Roberts, Mia Facey and Jamie Pincin place third with a 3:42.26 time. That gave the Aggies 32 points toward their day-ending team score.

Laughlin's winning backstroke time also hit a NCAA 'B; standards, as did Roberts' third-place 1:02.38 in the 100 breast. Roberts now ranks fifth in school history in that event, improving almost two tenths from her previous best at the Hansel Invite. She also led three UC Davis swimmers in that final, as Kristin Schumann placed seventh (1:03.06) and Iris Brand was eighth (1:03.69 in the prelim) for a 39-point boost in the team standings.

The Aggies also received significant scoring from the 100 butterfly and 3-meter diving events. Mia Facey won the consolation final of the 100 fly with a 55.04, a team season-best and just shy of her PR of 54.43 set at last year's MPSF meet. She led three UC Davis swimmers in that event, good for 18 points. UC Davis also received a 27-point boost from the diving portion of Saturday's competition, with Serena Yee leading five scorers with her ninth-place 250.50. Sophomores Jessica Fernandez and Shaifali Goyal were right behind in 10th (246.60) and 11th (246.15), respectively.

The MPSF Championships conclude on Saturday with the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving and 400 free relay.
