INDIANAPOLIS -- UC Davis sophomore Solie Laughlin closed out her stay at the 2017 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with a pair of top-40 finishes in Indianapolis, competing in three events at the national championship meet hosted by IUPUI at the IU Natatorium.
The sophomore from Ventura opened the competition on Thursday (March 16) in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:00.25 to finish 52nd overall in the field. It was Laughlin's second-fastest time of the year in the event, but a half a second off her season best of 1:59.74 in an exhibition swim at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
Laughlin, only the fourth different Aggie to represent UC Davis at the NCAA Championships during the Division I Era, posted her best finish of the weekend on Friday (March 17) in the 400 IM, touching in a time of 4:11.85 to finish 30th. It was her second-fastest time of the season in the event, but nearly a second off her school record of 4:10.86 that gave her the MPSF title for the second straight season.
She then capped off her trip to Indiana by finishing 39th in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.60 on Saturday (March 18) -- just .02 off her school record time set earlier this season at the Phill Hansel Invitational on Nov. 20.
California's Kathleen Baker won both the 200 IM (pool-record time of 1:51.69) and the 200 back (1:48.44), while Stanford's Ella Eastin took home honors in the 400 IM, posting an American and pool record time of 3:57.57.
