COLUMBIA, Mo. — UC Davis junior Solie Laughlin posted an NCAA "B" cut in the 200 IM in Thursday's “C” final during the first day of competition at the tenth-annual Mizzou Invite hosted by the University of Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. In all, fourteen members of the UC Davis women’s swimming and diving team made individual appearances in the finals, including senior Aislinn Dresel, who was the only Aggie to earn second swims in two events as she finished 23rd overall in both the 100 fly and 50 free.

UC Davis finished the day in sixth place as a team with 92 points. The host Tigers lead the field with 500 points followed by Nebraska in second with 248 points, and Wyoming in third with 161 points.

The Aggies opened the second session of the day with a sixth-place finish in the 200 free relay final thanks to a season-best time of 1:33.54 posted by the team of Jamie Pincin, Mia Cunnan, Ali Sena, and Courtney Schultz.

In the 500 free, junior Nina Gonzalez shaved three seconds off her 16th-place prelim time of 4:58.87 to finish 12th overall with a season-best time of 4:55.30. Gonzalez is the first Aggie to break the five minute mark this season and now ranks seventh on the UC Davis top 10 list for the 500 free. Freshman Paige Lampron finished 20th overall with a season-best time of 5:01.75. Freshman Kathryn Bockman and sophomore Olivia Smith finished 25th and 26th overall respectively, with Bockman swimming eight seconds faster than her previous season best.

Senior Aislinn Dresel, sophomore Cora McClelland, and senior Jordan Owyoung all earned second swims after posting season-best times in the prelims of the 100 fly. McClelland (56.13) posted the fastest time by a UC Davis swimmer this season, and placed 13th overall with a time of 56.33. Owyoung (57.82) and Dresel (58.05) went on to finish 21st and 23rd on the day, respectively.

The 200 IM saw a first place finish in the “C” final— 17th overall— by Laughlin with an NCAA “B” cut time of 2:00.82, four seconds faster than her previous season-best time of 2:04.85 notched during the prelims. Chung (2:06.22) finished 23rd on the night, while freshman Kyla Leacox (2:06.22) finished first in the “D” final and Kristin Schumann (2:07.61) finished 28th.

The Aggies were well represented in the 50 freestyle with five swimmers — the most for UC Davis of any other event — advancing to second swims. Cunnan (23.66), Sena (23.69), Pincin (23.71), Schultz (23.73), and Dresel (23.96) all posted season-best times in the prelims, with Cunnan recording the fastest time by a UC Davis swimmer this season. Cunnan went on to finish 16th overall touching with a time of 23.79.

Closing out the night at the Mizzou Aquatic Center was the quartet of Laughlin, Schumann, McClelland, and Schultz who finished eighth overall in the 400 medley relay with a season-best time of 3:45.12.

On the boards, freshman Katie Truong represented the Aggies in the 3-meter championship final, finishing 12th in the prelims with a season-best 237.20 mark, and 12th in the final with a 228-point effort.

Competition resumes tomorrow (Nov.17) beginning at 10 a.m. CST with prelims in the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 back, 200 medley relay, and 1-meter diving, followed by finals in those events, in addition to the 800 free relay, beginning at 6 p.m. CST.
