COLUMBIA, Mo. — Eighteen swimmers on the UC Davis women’s swimming and diving team earned second individual swims during day two of competition at the tenth-annual Mizzou Invite on Friday. Solie Laughlin (400 IM) and Kristin Schumann (100 breaststroke) competed in the championship finals of their respective events, with Laughlin finishing seventh overall and Schumann finishing eighth overall.
The Aggies remained in sixth place with 194 points as a team after more than doubling their day one 92-point total. The host Tigers continue to pace the field with 948.50 points, followed by Nebraska in second with 500.50 points.
UC Davis began the second session of the day with a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay, with the quartet of Solie Laughlin, Kristin Schumann, Cora McClelland, and Mia Cunnan finishing with a season-best time of 1:43.58.
Laughlin, who finished eighth in the prelims, improved one spot in the championship final for the 400 IM, finishing seventh overall with a time of 4:20.97—the fastest time by an Aggie swimmer this season. Eva Chung secured the top spot in the “C” final— 17th overall— with her season-best time of 4:29.78, almost exactly four seconds faster than her previous season best set in the prelims (4:33.70). Laura Lampron, Elise Wright, and Leah Timmerman finished 19th, 20th, and 24th, respectively, on the night.
In the 200 free “C” final, Nina Gonzalez finished 22nd on the night (1:52.65) followed by Jamie Pincin (1:53.72) who finished 24th overall. Olivia Smith, Paige Lampron, and Ali Sena went on to finish third, seventh, and eighth in the "D" final.
The finals for the 100 breaststroke saw the most Aggie swimmers of any event thus far, with at least one representative in each of the four finals. Schumann, one of two UC Davis swimmers to earn a spot in the championship final, posted a season-best time of 1:02.89 in the prelims— just four tenths of a second shy of an NCAA “B” cut. Schumann went on to finish eighth on the night, touching with a time of 1:03.48. In the “B” final, Kyla Leacox improved to 11th place thanks to a season-best time of 1:04.28 while Tori Kaleta (1:04.55) swam her fastest time of the season to finish 14th overall. Alexa Hanley (1:05.78), Elise Wright (1:06.73), Courtney Schultz (1:07.23) finished third, sixth, and seventh, respectively, in the “C” final while Timmerman (106.99) took the top spot in the “D” final.
After posting the fourth fastest time by a UC Davis swimmer this season in the prelims of the 100 back, Cunnan went on to finish 23rd in the “C” final, with Dresel (57.46) and Jordan Owyoung (58.37) finishing first and fifth in the “D” final.
In the last event of the night, the Aggies finished seventh in the 800 free relay with the team of Schultz, Pincin, Gonzalez, and Laughlin posting the fastest time of the season at 7:38.90.
Competition resumes tomorrow (Nov. 18) beginning at 10 a.m. CST with prelims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, and platform diving, followed by finals in those events, in addition to the 1650 free and 400 free relay. Finals will begin at 6 p.m. CST with the exception of the 1650 free, which will begin at 4 p.m. CST. Live results are available for both sessions by clicking here.
