COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Marissa Brown and sophomore Hilary Hunt broke school records in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, respectively, to cap UC Davis' visit at the Mizzou Invitational collegiate swimming and diving meet at Mizzou Aquatic Center Saturday night.

The Aggies finished third of nine teams for the meet with 575.5 points.

Brown posted a time of 16 minutes, 44.83 seconds in her debut in the 1,650 free, shattering teammate Cara Silvas' UC Davis record of 16:55.96 from last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. Then in the very next women's race, Hunt became just the third Aggie to break the two-minute barrier in the 200 back. Her 1:58.99 surpassed the 2005 benchmark of 1:59.52 set by recent Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Yuka Kobayashi. Hunt also hit `B' qualifying standards to the NCAA championship meet next spring.

Brown's time was good for third place in the event, behind UNLV's Jessica Heim (16:31.17) and Boise State's Jennifer Cahill (16:40.01). She finished ahead of teammate Samantha Shellem, whose sixth-place time of 17:04.60 moves her into fourth in school history. Sophomore Marilyn Carey also hit a personal record in the event at 17:14.68, moving her past Shannon Little into seventh in the Aggie record book.

Among the divers, freshman Audrey DeNeffe was the lone Aggie to advance to the platform finals. She finished second with a 210.05 score, breaking another UC Davis benchmark.

In setting the 1,650 mark, Brown also broke her own two-week-old record in the 1,000 free. Her split at that point in the race was 10:05.42, a second and a half faster than the 10:06.98 she posted in the November 16 home dual with Nevada.

Hunt led a sizable UC Davis field in her race, with many of her teammates positioning themselves in the school's all-time 200 back leaderboard. Junior team co-captain Sabrina Cochrane went 2:04.31 in the final, now fourth in UC Davis history. Junior Karley Troup competed only the morning's prelim, but delivered a 2:05.32 to move into seventh all-time. Sam Rados and Sarah Luibel each went 2:06.04, now sharing ninth in Aggie annals. Rados' final time marked more than a three-second improvement over her prelim mark, a previous lifetime best of 2:09.31.

Junior Liliana Alvarez had the Aggies' highest individual finish of the day, placing second in the 200 breast at 2:13.23. Junior Haley Porter also advanced to the final eight in the 100 free, placing fifth with a time of 50.60. She had won a swim-off against UNLV's Brittany Ozar to advance to the `A' final, establishing a new PR of 50.48 that ranks fourth in school history.

The Aggies rounded out the day with fourth-place points in the 400 free relay. The team of Hilary Hunt, Shellem, Edwards and Porter posted a 3:23.60, easily surpassing the team's previous season best of 3:29.76. Hunt's leadoff split of 51.52 puts her ninth on the school's 100 free list while Bridget Bugbee's 51.54 to start the 'B' squad is now 10th all-time.

In all, UC Davis swimmers broke school records during their three-day stay in Columbia. Shellem went 4:48.59 in the 500 free in Thursday's competition, then Brown and Hunt set their new benchmarks on Saturday.

The Aggies break for the winter, picking up competition in a home dual on January 12 against Pacific.
