DAVIS, Calif. - After its impressive performance at the Mizzou Invite last December, the UC Davis swimming and diving team jumped two spots and is now No. 8 in the newest top-25 mid-major rankings released by CollegeSwimming.com.
The Aggies are the highest-ranked team out of the four Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schools on CollegeSwimming's latest list, one that also includes Hawai'i (No. 9), UC Santa Barbara (No. 12) and Cal Poly (No. 24).
Now in its 11th year, the Mid-Major Rankings were established to provide an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that are not members of a BCS conference/Mountain West Conference, or provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
The top-25 list is the second one organized by CollegeSwimming.com this season, UC Davis found itself ranked No. 10 in the site's inaugural listing released last November.
UC Davis will return to action for the first time in more than a month in a 12 p.m. dual meet at the Schaal Aquatics Center on Saturday, Jan. 12, against Pacific.
