COMING UP NEXT: The UC Davis men's and women's swim teams will host Big West Conference rival Pacific Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1:00 p.m. in a dual meet at the Schaal Aquatics Center... The women's team then travels to San Jose State Sunday, Jan. 17 for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet at The Aquatics Center.

SCOUTING PACIFIC: Pacific last competed at Stanford Jan. 9 and suffered losses on both sides with the men's team falling 157-92 and the women's team losing 154-97... The women's team now holds a 4-3 dual meet record while the men sit at 1-6 in dual meet competition... The men are led by sophomore Kevin Byers who owns the team's top times in four different events... Aljaz Ojstersek leads the men in the distance freestyle events and owns the third-fastest time in the Big West in the 1650 freestyle (15:46.94)... For the women, senior Devonie Migues holds a top time in five individual events... Melissa McGhee and Elena Walterman are No. 1 and 2, respectively, in the Big West Conference in the 200 butterfly... The Pacific women's squad will compete at Fresno State Thursday, Jan. 14 before Saturday's meet at UC Davis.

LAST MEETING: JAN. 24, 2009: UC Davis and Pacific last faced off in a dual meet at Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton Jan. 24, 2009... The UC Davis men defeated Pacific 145-108 while the Tiger women edged the Aggie women by a mere two points, 132-130... Heidi Kucera won three events for the women and Scott Weltz had three individual wins for the men.

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE: The Spartans (6-3) are coming off a 129-57 dual meet victory over Cal State East Bay Saturday, Jan. 9... The team is led by 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year Heather Denman who has turned in three NCAA "B" Consideration times thus far... Denman also set two school records for San Jose State at the Toshiba Classic Nov. 19-21... Freshman Amy Kilby has earned three NCAA Automatic Qualifying marks in one-meter diving and has already set school records in one-meter and platform... The Spartans will also be competing against Pacific Sunday.

LAST MEETING: UC Davis and San Jose State have already met this season when the Spartans took a 162-67 win at the WAC Shootout Oct. 10... San Jose State also defeated UC Davis in the last dual meet when the Spartans took a 170-129 win in Davis Jan. 10, 2009.

WOMEN'S RECAP: TEXAS INVITATIONAL, DEC. 3-5: Members of the UC Davis women's swimming team traveled to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Invitational alongside some of the best Division I programs in the country... Freshman Bridget Bugbee set a school record in the 500 freestyle on the first day of action... Her time of 4:55.46 bested the previous mark of 4:58.86 set by Linda Hermann last season and was good enough for 12th place... Jenah Dawson was 14th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:32.58 and Morgan Lee was 20th in the 100 breast with a season-best time of 1:06.53.

MEN'S RECAP: TEXAS INVITATIONAL, DEC. 3-5: The UC Davis men's swimming team also competed at the Texas Invitational and finished fourth overall... Scott Weltz turned in two school records and four NCAA "B" Consolation times... Weltz, Jimmy Fong, Daniel Donnelly and Russ Underwood set a school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.63... Weltz, Adam Borchard, Jordan Lager and Ed Morrison earned a "B" time of 6:41.33 in the 800 freestyle relay... Matt Herman had an NCAA "B" Consideration time in the 1650 freestyle, clocking in at 15:34.90 to finish fourth.

WELTZ'S WINNING WAYS: UC Davis senior Scott Weltz is no stranger to the Aggie record books as seen in his performance at the Texas Invitational... On the first day of competition, Weltz set a school record in the 100 butterfly with an NCAA "B" Consideration time of 46.90... That same day, he earned a second "B" time in the 200 individual medley when he finished second overall with a time of 1:45.48... Weltz was part of the 200 medley relay squad that set a school record time of 1:30.63 on the second day of competition... He also earned an NCAA "B" Consideration time as part of the 800 freestyle relay... His 100 breaststroke time of 54.84 was his third individual NCAA "B" Consideration time and the second individual school record in as many days... Weltz earned his fourth "B" time with a fifth place finish in the 200 breaststroke (1:57.61).... For his efforts, Weltz was named Big West Swimmer of the Week for the week of Dec. 8.

LOOKING AHEAD: The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Cal State Bakersfield Saturday, Jan. 23 for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
