DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team heads into this weekend ranked eighth in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major poll, and No. 35 overall in the nation, for the most recent ranking period which ran from Dec. 18-Jan. 12.
The Aggies, who are unbeaten in dual meets this season at 5-0, rang in the new year with a dominating, 140-111, win over visiting Fresno State in their home opener on Jan. 11, powered by a quintet of double event-winners and a pair of pool records by freshman Hilvy Cheung in both butterfly events. UC Davis, which finished its fall schedule ranked No. 24 in the nation for its highest ranking in school history, finished 1-2-3 in three events against FSU and exhibitioned its swimmers over the meet's final four events.
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 30 in the poll, released on Jan. 15, with past opponents San Jose State (No. 6) and Loyola Marymount (No. 40) also listed in this week's poll.
Points for the rankings are calculated from an average of each team's top 27 swims in a given meet. Rankings are then compiled over each team's top performance over the previous four weeks. Complete rankings are linked above.
With a busy weekend ahead, the Aggies return to the pool for a pair of dual meets on the road this weekend, heading south to take on Pacific on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Noon before meeting CSU Bakersfield, which is ranked No. 19 in this week's poll, on Sunday (Jan. 19) at 1 p.m.
