DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis freshman Hilvy Cheung was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Turbo Female Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after her perfect weekend helped the Aggies to a pair of dual meet wins over Pacific and CSU Bakersfield.
It is the first career award for Cheung, who becomes the second Aggie to be so honored by the conference this season, joining teammate Liliana Alvarez and her award on Nov. 27.
After setting a pair of Schaal Aquatics Center records in the first dual of the season against Fresno State, Cheung picked up right where she left off last weekend on the road against the Tigers and Roadrunners, going a perfect 8-for-8 in the two meets, bringing home six individual wins and a pair of relay victories.
She opened the weekend with three individual titles at Pacificm winning the 100 fly (55.90), 200 fly (2:00.93), and 200 IM (2:05.41), while also swimming the third leg of the Aggies' winning 200 medley relay squad (1:45.90).
Cheung followed that up 24 hours later with three more individual wins against Bakersfield, claiming the top spot in the 100 back (57.01), 100 fly (55.75), and 200 fly (2:07.05), along with another win in the 200 medley relay (1:45.56).
The performances helped UC Davis remain perfect in dual meets this season at 7-0 heading into its final weekend of the regular season. The Aggies host UC Santa Barbara on Friday (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m., before welcoming Loyola Marymount on Sunday (Jan. 26) at 10 a.m.
