DAVIS, Calf. - Junior Liliana Alvarez captured one relay and two individual events to help UC Davis earn a decisive victory over CSU Bakersfield last Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Aggies' final home meet of the season, a performance that also helped her earn Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week accolades.
Alvarez took down both breaststroke events, with her time of one minute, 4.80 seconds edging teammate Morgan Lee in an Aggie sweep of the 100-yard race. She then dominated the field in the 200 breast at 2:22.57, finishing more than seven seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Earning top points for UC Davis in its first race against the Roadrunners with a time of 1:46.38 in the 200 medley, Alvarez' name is now found on five of the top six times posted this season by Aggie swimmers in this event.
Alvarez is the second Aggie swimmer to receive recognition from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season, junior freestyle swimmer Samantha Shellem received conference honors on Nov. 7 and Dec. 5.
UC Davis will end its dual schedule on Saturday, Jan. 26, in a double-dual event against the Fresno State Bulldogs and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. Action from the Fresno State Aquatics Center will start at 12 p.m.
