DAVIS, Calif. - For the third time this season, junior Samantha Shellem received Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the conference Wednesday evening.

Due to her efforts in the Aggies' double dual in Fresno, Calif., on Jan. 26, UC Davis defeated host Fresno State 195-105, and Mountain Pacific Sport Federation rival UC Santa Barbara 180-120 to finish its dual schedule with an 8-2 record.

The victory over the Gauchos was the first for UC Davis since 2006.

The La Verne, Calif., native dominated the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 5:00.91, more than four full seconds ahead of Gaucho sophomore Heren Alanis at 5:05.35. She also went 1:51.62 in the 200 free, good for second overall in the meet, and first-place points in the UC Davis-Fresno State competition. She added a second-place 2:04.52 in the 200 back.

Shellem also swam the opening leg of the Aggies' 400 free relay team, a squad that touched the wall first at 3:29.00.

Athlete of the Week recognition was also awarded to Shellem on Nov. 7 and Dec. 5, 2012.
