DAVIS, Calif. -- For her efforts in helping the UC Davis women's swimming team to its 15th consecutive dual victory against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents, junior Hilvy Cheung was named the league's female athlete of the week on Wednesday morning.

It is the first MPSF weekly honor of the season for Cheung, and the fourth in a stellar career for the junior, who trails only former Aggie Samantha Shellem (five) for the most in school history. Cheung joins freshman Solie Laughlin, who earned league accolades back on Jan. 13, as UC Davis weekly winners this season.

The junior from Fremont, Calif., helped the Aggies close out the regular season with a 136-114 victory over MPSF rival Pacific on Jan. 30, winning both backstroke distances and posting the fastest time in a third event once UC Davis had clinched the match.

She opened by swimming the backstroke leg for the victorious 200 medley relay squad, touching in a time of 26.53 to get the Aggies out to the early lead, before finishing first in the 100 back with a time of 56.43 as Laughlin completed a UC Davis 1-2 finish in the event.

Five events later, Cheung sparked another 1-2 finish for the Aggies in the 200 back, touching a second ahead of teammate Iris Brand with a time of 2:04.56, and wrapped up her day with an exhibition time of 54.91 in the 100 fly -- her fastest short-course yards time of the year, the third quickest in the MPSF this season, and her second-fastest time in the event overall, trailing only the 54.66 converted long course meters time at the AT&T Winter Nationals on Dec. 4.

The postseason begins on Feb. 17, as UC Davis heads to Southern California for the 2016 MPSF Championships. For the fifth consecutive year, the swimming events will be contested at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif., while the divers will compete at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, Calif., beginning on Feb. 18.

Last season, the Aggies finished second at the conference meet with 632 points, trailing only champion Hawai'i, which led wire-to-wire, with 747 points.
