DAVIS, Calif. — Coming off a recent win over conference foe Pacific (188-112) to close out the regular season, the UC Davis women’s swimming and diving team now looks ahead to this week’s Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship meet held in Southern California. The meet will kick off with a pair of relay events on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and run through Saturday Feb. 17, with the swimming portion of the meet hosted at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif., while the divers portion will be held at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena, Calif.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The schedule for this week’s upcoming championship is listed below, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. each day followed by finals at 6 p.m. later in the day. This schedule differs for the first day of competition on Wednesday which will have finals for the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay beginning at 6 p.m. For more information on the championship, please visit the MPSF website by clicking here.

MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
East Los Angeles College will host the MPSF swimming championships for the seventh consecutive season, while the diving portion of the meet will be hosted at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center for the fifth consecutive year. UC Davis is one of three schools to claim the conference title on the women’s side along with BYU (2012) and this year’s defending champion, Hawai’i (2015, 2017).

2017 MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
At last season’s four-day championship meet, the Aggies went on to finish third overall with a total of 593 points. Then sophomore Solie Laughlin secured three individual championships (100 back, 200 back, 400 IM) including her second straight title in the 200 back, set a meet record in the 400 IM (4:10.85), and became the second Aggie to crack the 54-second barrier in the 100 back with a time of 53.93, while then freshman Olivia Smith finished fifth in the 200 fly (2:03.79), and then sophomore Kristin Schumann finished seventh overall in the 100 breaststroke. On the boards, Jessica Fernandez, Angelina Proshak, and Inessa Toropov all posted top-16 finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter programs, while in the platform event, Proshak came in ninth (195.40), Toropov came in 12th (180.90), Fernandez finished 13th (174.90), and Ani Vemury finished 15th (161.75).
