INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Junior Liliana Alvarez will not have much time to celebrate UC Davis' second Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship in the last three years, all-league honors or her third straight MPSF championship in the 100 Breaststroke because she will now travel to Indianapolis at the end of the month to compete at the 2012-13 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Indianapolis, Ind., is the site of this year's championship, one that will run from March 21-23. Trials for the 100 Breaststroke will take place during the morning session on Friday, March 22, with the finals taking place during that night's 7 p.m. session.
Trials and the finals for the 200 Breaststroke are scheduled for the sessions taking place at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
This is Alvarez's third straight trip to the NCAA Championships; in the 2010-11 event, Alvarez Finished 23rd in the 100 breast at 1:00.96, falling less than half a second shy of earning a spot at in the consolation finals, then took 45th in 200 breast (2:14.15).
Alvarez will compete in the 100 and 200 breast in this year's meet.
The junior from San Anselmo, Calif., may have company joining her if divers Lucy Lafranchise and Hanna Tears perform well enough at the Zone E Diving Regional at the Cadet Natatorium located on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Both Aggie divers surpassed the requisite scores needed to participate in the 1-Meter event at this year's regional, with the latter also earning a spot in the 3-Meter event.
If successful, Lafranchise and Tears will also punch their ticket to Indianapolis alongside teammate Alvarez; competition will begin on Thursday, March 14, and conclude two days later on Saturday, March 16.
