DAVIS, Calif. -- For the second consecutive season, UC Davis sophomore Lucy Lafranchise will represent the Aggies in all three events at the 2014 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals hosted by the Air Force Academy beginning on Thursday (March 14) and running through Saturday (March 16) at the Cadet Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Regional competition begins at 11 a.m. on all three days beginning with the 1-meter competition on Thursday, the 3-meter board on Friday (March 15), and the platform to close things out on Saturday. The top eight divers from the regional qualify for the NCAA Championships, and that group will be announced following Saturday's competition.
Live results will be available online at divemeets.com.
Lafranchise holds the highest score by an Aggie on the 1-meter board this year with a 271.27 in a double dual with San Diego and Oregon State on Nov. 2 -- which stands as the second-highest score in the event in school history -- and holds four of the top 10 scores on the low board by a UC Davis diver this season -- including a ninth-place finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships with a score of 250.90 to win the consolation finals.
Her season high on the 3-meter was a 258.60 in a home dual with Loyola Marymount on Jan. 26, eventually finishing 10th in the event at the MPSF championships (244.55), while the Bakersfield, Calif., native also scored a season-best 176.55 on the platform at the conference championships.
Lafranchise is looking to become the third member of the swimming and diving team to qualify for the NCAA Championships after teammates Liliana Alvarez (100 breaststroke) and Hilvy Cheung (100 and 200 fly) were invited to compete at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis on March 20-22.
