DAVIS, Calif. -- Seventeen members of the UC Davis women's swimming and diving team have been honored for the performance in the classroom, earning a spot on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic team for the 2016-17 season, the league office announced.
To qualify, each student-athlete had to maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, complete one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and compete in at least 50 percent of the institution's competitions.
The Aggies' total is the most since they have been a member of the league, surpassing the 14 honorees in both the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, and are tied with BYU for the most in the MPSF this season. In all, the group represents 11 different majors at UC Davis.
Seniors Kaitlin Leung, Marrisa LaFreniere, Kirsten Brand, and Elise Roberts, all earned the award for the third time in their respective careers, while juniors Robin Lampron, Angelina Proshak, Aislinn Dresel, Elise Wright, Ani Vemury, Angelica Nowack, Jordan Owyoung, and Ali Sena, all repeated their honors from a season ago.
Senior Marissa Brown, along with sophomores Eva Chung, Mia Facey, Shaifali Goyal, and Kristin Schumann, were all named to the team for the first time in their careers.
