Alvarez Named Mid-Major All-American

SOMERS, Wisc. - UC Davis sophomore Liliana Alvarez has earned Mid-Major All-American honors while Katie Edwards and Kayleigh Foley each received honorable mention accolades, it was announced by

The Mid-Major All-Americans are named based on their qualification for the 2012 NCAA Division I Swimming Championships. Honorable Mention status is given to swimmers who were entered with NCAA 'B' standards, but were not selected for the NCAA Championships.

Alvarez, a San Anselmo, Calif. native, recorded multiple NCAA "B" Consideration Standard times throughout the year, including season best times of 1:00.71 (100 yard breast) and 2:12.72 (200 yard breast). She also captured a MPSF Championship in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.80.

UC Davis ended the season with a third-place finish in the MPSF Championships. Throughout the four-day conference meet, the Aggies accounted for five event championships, nine NCAA "B" Standard times and three school records, among several season and lifetime bests.
