Weltz Set for 200 Breast Finals at Olympic Trials

OMAHA, Neb. - Scott Weltz posted the No. 2 time in Thursday's preliminary heats, then finished fourth in the semifinals of the 200-meter breaststroke to advance to the event finals at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials at the CenturyLink Center.

Weltz, who serves as a volunteer assistant with the UC Davis women's swimming and diving team, turned in a time of 2:10.90 on Thursday morning to finish second to Clark Burckle in the 12th heat. He then went on to clock in at 2:10.99 in the event semifinals to earn a place in Friday's finals.

Swimming in lane four of the first semifinals heat, Weltz was the top finisher in his heat and finds himself less than one second back of Burckle who won the semifinal in a time of 2:10.01.

Eric Shanteau and Brendan Hansen, who Weltz swam against in the 100 breast on Tuesday, placed second and third, respectively.

Weltz is also set to compete in the preliminaries of the 200 individual medley on Friday morning.
