DAVIS, Calif. — Following a third place finish at the first meet of the 2017-18 season in Reno, the UC Davis women’s swimming and diving team will welcome past alumnae back to School Aquatics Center for the annual Blue-Gold Intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.

The UC Davis roster will be split into two teams, competing against one another over 15 scheduled events. Saturday’s competition marks the first of six home events on the Aggies’ schedule this season. Next weekend UC Davis will host San Diego State in a dual meet on Oct. 21 at 12 p.m.

Last season, the Aggies ended with a third place finish at the Moutain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, with junior Solie Laughlin earning first place finishes in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM.

Laughlin was invited to maker her way to the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis to represent UC Davis in the NCAA swimming and diving championships. With that, Laughlin became the fourth UC Davis swimmer invited to the NCAA Championships during the program’s Division I Era. Laughlin finished 30th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.85 and 39th in the 200 back touching in a time of 1:54.60.

Following the 2016-17 season, UC Davis graduated a seven-member senior class: Hilvy Cheung (Fly), Kirsten Brand (Free/Breast), Marissa Brown (Dist. Free), Elise Roberts (Breast/IM), Kaitlin Leung (Fly), Marisa LaFreniere (Sprint Free/Fly), as well as diver Serena Yee.

Cheung can still be seen around the UC Davis campus since her acceptance to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2021.

Entering the 2017-18 season, UC Davis returns 25 members of last season’s squad, and welcomes 15 newcomers: a 13-member freshman class in addition to transfers Nina Gonzalez and Tori Kaleta. Gonzalez spent her first two seasons at Tulane University, where she set three personal bests in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 500 free at the American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. Sophomore Tori Kaleta made her collegiate debut with UC San Diego in October of 2016, competing in four meets for the Tritons.

For a few student-athletes on the roster, athletics is truly a family affair: freshmen Laura Lampron and Paige Lampron are younger sisters to senior Robin Lampron, and freshman Theresa Nowack is younger sister to senior Angelica Nowack.
