COMING UP NEXT: The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host UC Santa Cruz Saturday at noon at Schaal Aquatics Center... The meet will be the season opener for the men's swimming and diving team.

SCOUTING UC SANTA CRUZ: The Banana Slugs last competed Oct. 9-10 at the PCSC Relay Meet... The men's side will be led by junior Ben Ferguson who holds the school record in the 50 freestyle... Ferguson also posted one NCAA "A" time and one NCAA "B" time in 2008-09... The women's team is led by senior Megan Crowley and sophomore Sarah Dunn... Crowley swam an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 breast last season while Dunn achieved the "B" time in the 200 IM... UC Santa Cruz is coached by Kim Musch who is in his 11th year with the Slugs.

WEEKEND RECAP: The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team hosted Nevada Friday, Oct. 16 in the first dual meet of the season... Despite losing to the Wolfpack 161-139, Bridget Bugbee, Kayleigh Foley and Linda Hermann each won two individual events... Bugbee, a freshman, was victorious in the 1000 and 500 free... Sophomore Foley came in first in the 50 and 100 free... Junior Hermann finished first in the 200 free and 200 back.

AGGIE MEN LOOK TO BUILD ON SUCCESS IN 2009-10: The UC Davis men's swimming and diving team opens the 2009-10 season Saturday with high hopes for the year ahead... The team has set goals to have two relays qualify for the NCAAs and for senior Scott Weltz to achieve All-American status... Weltz is the reigning Big West Conference Swimmer of the Year and was an honorable mention All-American in 2009... Alongside Weltz, Russ Underwood, B.J. Scoggan, Daniel Donnelly and Alex Daneke should provide strong support... The breaststroke event will be the team's best form stroke with Weltz, sophomore Keegan Groot, and juniors Kyle Anderson and Zach Hansen... Groot, Anderson and Hansen were Big West Conference finalists last year... Paul Navo and Jason Andrade will lead the divers.

NEWCOMERS MAKING BIG SPLASH: The women have seen an immediate impact from their newest Aggies in the two meets they've competed in thus far... Freshman Grace Benefield had two top-10 finishes at the WAC Shootout to open the season Oct. 10... She placed seventh in the 1000 free and fifth in the 500 free... Against Nevada, Benefield was second in the 1000 free and the 500 free... Bridget Bugbee, a freshman from San Ramon, Calif., also had two top-ten finishes at the WAC Shootout, placing seventh in the 200 free and second in the 500 free... Bugbee won two individual events against Nevada, the 1000 free and the 500 free... Senior Ashley Chandler joins the Aggie swim team after three years on the UC Davis women's water polo team... At the WAC Shootout, Chandler placed third in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free and clocked a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke leg of the 400 medley relay... Against Nevada, Chandler was second in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free.

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME: The 2009-10 schedule features seven total dual meets, including four straight Oct. 16-Nov. 6... The seven total dual meets is the most since joining the Div. I ranks... The Aggies hosted six dual meets in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

COMING UP NEXT: The men's and women's swimmers will host Seattle Saturday, Oct. 31 at Schaal Aquatics Center... The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
