DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis women’s swimming and diving team will welcome Fresno State and Cal State East Bay to Schaal Aquatics Center for a double dual competition this Friday (Nov.3) at 4 p.m.
Fresno State (0-1) began its 2017-18 campaign by hosting California, San Diego State, University of Nevada, Reno, and San Jose State in a two-day Chick-fil-a Invitational. The Bulldogs finished fourth overall, with the No. 2 Golden Bears taking the win, followed by San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State, and San Jose State.
Fresno State recently competed in their first dual meet of the season on Oct. 28 against Nevada, where the host Wolfpack posted a 174-109 win over the Bulldogs.
Cal State East Bay (3-0) earned three wins at a four-way dual meet hosted by Mills College, where the Pioneers faced conference opponent Biola, College of Idaho, and Mills College. The Pioneers then competed in the annual Bay Area Invitational where they placed first out of five competing teams.
The Aggies (2-4, 1-0 MPSF) will be returning to competition after traveling to UCLA and Loyola Marymount last weekend. At the swimming only double dual meet hosted by LMU, UC Davis posted wins against the host Lions (200-60), as well as MPSF rival San Diego (137-123). The Aggies captured top honors in five of the 14 events, including 1-2-3 sweeps in the 200 back and 200 IM.
UC Davis started off strong in the 200 medley relay, with the quartet of Aislinn Dresel, Kristin Schumann, Cora McClelland, and Courtney Schultz taking the win in the first event of the day with a season-best time of 1:46.99.
The Aggies won both individual backstroke events, with freshman Kyla Leacox finishing with a time of 58.10 to take the win in the 100 back and sophomore Mia Cunnan touching first in the 200 back with a season-best time of 2:06.11.
Junior Kristin Schumann finished first on the day in the 200 breast, posting a time of 2:23.15.
Junior Solie Laughlin rounded out the wins for UC Davis on the day, touching first overall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.22.
On the boards, freshman Katie Truong paced the Aggies in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, placing 11th overall at the four-way dual hosted by UCLA on Oct. 28.
Truong currently ranks sixth on the list of 2017-18 MPSF top dives for the one-meter program thanks to her 248.02-point performance when the Aggies hosted the Aztecs on Oct. 21. Senior Angelina Proshak also ranks eighth in the one-meter program after posting 243.90 points against San Diego State.
For the three-meter program, junior Jessica Fernandez ranks sixth in the MPSF for her 237.30- point effort, while Truong ranks eighth overall at 230.40 points.
Friday’s contest will mark the Aggies’ third home event of six on the schedule for 2017-18. UC Davis already hosted its annual Blue-Gold intra-squad scrimmage as well as San Diego State earlier this season.
Rain or shine, Friday’s double dual event will get underway at 4 p.m.
