COMING UP NEXT: The UC Davis men's swimming and diving team will host Fresno Pacific's men's squad Friday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Schaal Aquatics Center.
SCOUTING FRESNO PACIFIC: The Sunbirds finished the 2008-09 season as runners-up at the NAIA National Championships in only their second season... Head coach Peter Richardson was named the 2009 Men's Swimming Coach of the Year... Junior Carl Weigley is reigning NAIA national champion in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle... The team placed second at the PCSC Relay Meet Oct. 9.
MEN'S WEEKEND RECAP: The UC Davis men now stand at 3-0 in dual meet competition after defeating Denver 160-135 Friday at Schaal Aquatics Center... Adam Borchard, Alex Daneke, Jimmy Fong and Scott Weltz each won two individual events... Borchard took first in the 1000- and 500-free events... Daneke finished first in the 100- and 200-free with a season-best time in the 100 free... Fong had two season-best times in his wins in the 100 and 200 back... Weltz's time in the 100 breast was a season-best and he also took first place in the 200 breast.
WOMEN'S WEEKEND RECAP: Despite two wins from Ashley Chandler, the UC Davis women's team fell to Denver 191-109 Friday... Chandler won the 50 free with a season-best time of 23.97 and won the 100 free with another season-best time... Bridget Bugbee finished first in the 500 free with a season-best time of 5:05.38... Linda Hermann, Lisa Bender and Morgan Lee each placed second in three different individual events.
NEWCOMERS MAKING BIG SPLASH: Both teams have seen an immediate impact from their newest Aggies so far in 2009:
Grace Benefield - The freshman had two top-10 finishes at the WAC Shootout Oct. 10... Against Nevada Oct. 16, she was second in the 1000 free and the 500 free... She placed second in the 1000 free and 500 free against Seattle Oct. 31.
Bridget Bugbee - The San Ramon, Calif. native also had two top-ten finishes at the WAC Shootout... She won two individual events against Nevada Oct. 16, the 1000 free and the 500 free... Against UC Santa Cruz Oct. 24, she won the 200 free... She led all Aggie swimmers with three individual wins against Seattle Oct. 31... Most recently she won the 500 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Ashley Chandler - A senior, Chandler joins the Aggie swim team after three years on the UC Davis women's water polo team... At the WAC Shootout, Chandler placed third in the 50 free and clocked a personal best time in the 100 back leg of the 400 medley relay... She placed second in the 100 back against Nevada Oct. 16... Chandler won the 50 free and was the leadoff swimmer for the first-place 400 medley relay team against Seattle Oct. 31... She placed first in the 50 free and 100 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Jason Singh - The newcomer placed first in the 200 free against UC Santa Cruz in his Aggie debut.
Josef Stitts - Stitts placed second in the 50 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Adam Yen - This sophomore transfer helped the 200 medley relay team to a win over UC Santa Cruz Oct. 24 and placed second in the 200 fly in his first meet for UC Davis... He finished second in the 200 fly against Seattle Oct. 31.
