COMING UP NEXT: The UC Davis women's swimming team will travel south to compete at the Toshiba Classic in Long Beach, Calif... The three-day meet beings Thursday, Nov. 19 and ends Saturday, Nov. 21.
THE COMPETITION FIELD: The Toshiba Classic features some of the nation's most competitive teams, including defending national champions Cal... The women's field includes 26 teams, featuring Stanford, Hawaii and UCLA, in addition to the Golden Bears... Stanford finished fourth in last year's NCAA Division I Championships while UCLA placed 41st and Hawaii was 29th.
WOMEN'S WEEKEND RECAP: The Aggie women took a weekend off from competition to concentrate on training for the Toshiba Classic.
MEN'S WEEKEND RECAP: The UC Davis men remain undefeated in dual meet action, topping Fresno Pacific 167-125 Friday at Schaal Aquatics Center... The men now hold a 4-0 overall dual meet record... In addition to a win in the 200 medley relay, the Aggies had seven different individual event winners, including Reid Hartz in the 1000 free, Scott Weltz in the 100 back and Keegan Groot in the 200 breast... The Aggies also swept the diving competition with Paul Navo placing first in the 1-meter event and Jason Andrade finishing first on the high board.
NEWCOMERS MAKING BIG SPLASH: Both teams have seen an immediate impact from their newest Aggies so far in 2009:
Grace Benefield - The freshman had two top-10 finishes at the WAC Shootout Oct. 10... Against Nevada Oct. 16, she was second in the 1000 free and the 500 free... She placed second in the 1000 free and 500 free against Seattle Oct. 31.
Bridget Bugbee - The San Ramon, Calif. native also had two top-ten finishes at the WAC Shootout... She won two individual events against Nevada Oct. 16, the 1000 free and the 500 free... Against UC Santa Cruz Oct. 24, she won the 200 free... She led all Aggie swimmers with three individual wins against Seattle Oct. 31... Most recently she won the 500 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Ashley Chandler - A senior, Chandler joins the Aggie swim team after three years on the UC Davis women's water polo team... At the WAC Shootout, Chandler placed third in the 50 free and clocked a personal best time in the 100 back leg of the 400 medley relay... She placed second in the 100 back against Nevada Oct. 16... Chandler won the 50 free and was the leadoff swimmer for the first-place 400 medley relay team against Seattle Oct. 31... She placed first in the 50 free and 100 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Jason Singh - The newcomer placed first in the 200 free against UC Santa Cruz in his Aggie debut.
Josef Stitts - Stitts placed second in the 50 free against Denver Nov. 6.
Adam Yen - This sophomore transfer helped the 200 medley relay team to a win over UC Santa Cruz Oct. 24 and placed second in the 200 fly in his first meet for UC Davis... He finished second in the 200 fly against Seattle Oct. 31 and Fresno Pacific Nov. 13.
