DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's and women's swimming teams each signed a prospective student-athlete to a national letter of intent (NLI) during the November signing period. The male swimmer is Scott Weltz of San Jose, Calif., and the female swimmer is Emily Medved of Alameda.

Weltz, a senior at Bellarmine Prep, earned NISCA All-America honors in the 200 individual medley during each of his sophomore and junior seasons, after garnering All-America consideration as a freshman. He is also a two-time recipient of Pacific Swimming's Most Outstanding Swimmer award and ranked among the U.S. Swimming top 16 for the 15-16 age group as a member of San Jose Aquatics Club.

Medved, a senior at Alameda High School, is a three-time North Coast Section finalist in the 100 back. She won the NCS consolation final in that event as a sophomore, then placed fifth at the meet last season, setting a school-record time of 59.07. She also has earned NISCA All-America Consideration and the AHS Most Outstanding Swimmer award for three straight years. Additionally, Medved captured All-Alameda-Contra Costa Athletic League honorable mention in water polo.

Both prospects are expected to enroll at UC Davis for the 2005 fall quarter.
