BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Steven Childs, junior Brian Thomas and freshman Kierra Davis each won an individual event and a relay, while Davis also became just the seventh woman in school history to break the 12-second barrier in the 100-meter dash, highlighting UC Davis action at the Cal Opener track & field meet at Edwards Stadium Saturday.

Thomas won his first-ever Aggie appearance in the 800 meters, crossing in 1:53.30. He was the top Aggie runner in the 400 throughout the 2016 season, but this represented his first foray into the middle distances. Childs posted a winning jump of 7.08 meters, or 23 feet, 2.75 inches in his third jump, soon after hitting 7.02 (23-0.5) in his first legal jump. He was the only person in the 10-man field to break the 7-meter threshold.

Childs also led off the UC Davis foursome with senior Basil Okoroike, junior Ryan Hoffman and senior Antony Ardis with a winning 4x100 relay time of 41.55, better than a half-second against Cal's squad. Thomas ran the second leg of the winning 4x400 relay, along with Ardis, senior Alex Grigoriev and Hoffman, which clocked a winning 3:15.33 time for a six-second edge on Cal's 3:21.79.

Davis, making her collegiate outdoor debut, edged Cal's Jackie Patterson for a photo finish to place second in the 100-meter dash. Her time of 11.93 puts her sixth in school history. Davis later won the 200 with a wind-aided 24.36 time, and subsequently ran the third leg of the winning women's 4x400 relay. The team of Mikaela Adolphus, Rochelle Nadreau, Davis and Khadija Imara compiled a 3:54.71, more than two full seconds faster than Cal Poly (3:57.07) and the host Golden Bears (3:57.40).

In all, UC Davis won 11 total events during Saturday's meet. The Aggies swept both 200s on Saturday, as Ardis followed Davis' 200 victory by taking down the men's race at 21.81 -- just .02 off his own PR of 21.79, set at last year's Mondo Challenge. Junior Emma Redick won the 400 hurdles at 62.79, just four-hundredths of a second ahead of runner-up Bailey Sanin of Cal Poly. Senior Jianni Giusti captured the men's high jump with a 1.95m (6-4.75) mark.

Senior Morgan Dutra won the women's shot put with a throw of 13.08m (42-11), waiting until her sixth and final trip to the ring to hit that mark, thus surpassing Cal's Imani Bierly for the meet title. She later finished second in the discus to teammate Breanna Standifer, who fired a winning 48.60m (159-5) in her third throw.

Finally, sophomore Drew Xandrine-Anderson finished the slate of field events with his win in the triple jump, notching a wind-aided 15.39m (50-6). He led a 1-2-3 Aggie trifecta in the event, along with TK Dodds (14.50m/47-7) and Okoroike (14.48m/47-6.25).

LATE ADDITION: Meanwhile, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, senior Rianna Goins competed in the women's 600 meters at the USATF Indoor Nationals. She placed 13th in the meet with a 1:32.49 time. The top six advanced to Sunday's final. Goins is the first Aggie in the Division I era to compete at the USATF indoor meet in a UC Davis uniform.

UC Davis returns to action in the Aggie Open, held at its own Woody Wilson Track on March 10-11.
