SACRAMENTO, Calif./LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UC Davis sophomore Erinn Beattie cleared her second attempt of 1.76 meters, or 5 feet, 9.25 inches in imperial units, to tie her own school record and win the women’s high jump at the Hornet Invitational outdoor track & field meet. She first hit that mark at the same venue, in last year’s 2016 Mondo Invitational almost one year ago.

That was one of five total event wins and five new school top 10 marks posted in two different states, as the Aggies split their rosters at the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State and the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas.

In Sacramento, senior Alex Grigoriev had the UC Davis men’s lone event win, thanks to a 800-meter time of 1:49.31 in the first heat. That mark is 0.29 second faster than his nearest competitor and more than a full second better than his previous best of 1:50.33, set at California in 2014. Grigoriev moves into third in school history ahead of Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Famer Steve Gerhart, who posted a then-school record of 1:49.44 in 1985.

In Las Vegas, three Aggie women captured first place their individual events. Sophomore Mikaela Adolphus won the 400-meter dash at 54.84, almost a full second faster than runner-up Mandy Chitwood of UNLV, who crossed in 55.73. Senior Emma Redick took the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:00.24, edging unattached entrant Lexi Shaw by eight hundredths of a second. Michaela Mundt won the women’s hammer throw at 57.86 meters, or 189 feet, 10 inches. She missed her own career high, which ranks second in school history, by less than one inch. Meanwhile, Morgan Dutra’s 54.16m (177-8) in the same event moved her into fifth in the Aggie record book. The women’s hammer took place on Friday night, was halted due to darkness, then resumed on Saturday.

Freshman Kierra Davis hit two historic marks in the women’s sprints at UNLV. She first posted a career-high 11.86 to place fourth in the 100-meter dash. That puts her into a tie for fourth in school history with Nicole Theus and makes her the eighth Aggie to post a wind-legal mark of under 12 seconds in that event. Then later in the meet, she placed second in the 200-meter dash with a 23.84, making her just the fourth woman in school history to break the 24-second mark in that event. She now ranks third in school history behind only Ashley Marshall (23.25 in 2013) and Cekarri Nixon (23.74 in 2015). In the same race, Natsumi McGee posted a PR of 24.38 to move into eighth in the Aggie all-time top 10.

Meanwhile in Sacramento, sophomore Drew Xandrine-Anderson posted his first wind-legal triple jump of the year, hitting a mark of 15.30 meters (50-2.5) in his sixth and final attempt. He becomes the seventh Aggie male in history to break the 50-foot barrier, moving him into fifth in the school record book ahead of Jonathan Reed’s 15.25m (50-0.5) from 2000.

The track & field teams break for the university’s final examinations, then will split up the roster for various meets during the spring break week: the Mondo Team Challenge, the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the Stanford Invitational, Texas State’s Bobcat Relays and the Texas Relays.
