SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Davis senior Kim Conley won the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes, 22.17 seconds on Saturday at the Mondo Track and Field Invitational at Sacramento State, moving up to No. 2 on the program's career list and giving her a second qualifiying mark for the NCAA Div. I Regional Championships.

Sophomore Thomas Phillips was victorious for the UC Davis men, posting a career-best time of 47.77 and leading a 1-2 Aggie finish with Alex Wilright who crossed in 47.89. Phillips' time improved his No. 3 all-time postition in the event at UC Davis by .03 of a second.

The Aggie men, coming off a fifth-place showing at last week's Cal-Nevada Championships which also featured a pair of individual titles, had 22 top-five performances at Sacramento State on Saturday while the women garnered 13.

Conley had one of those, moving up two spots on the 1,500's career list with her close win over North Dakota State's Laura Hermanson who finished in 4:23.74. Conley's time was a personal-best by more than two seconds, eclipsing the 4:24.30 she had last season.

She was coming off a regional-qualifying mark of 16:17.51 in the 5,000 at last week's Stanford Invitational which was also a school record. Her 1,500 time trails only Suzy Jones who set the school standard of 4:19.94 in 1995.

Lorin Scott, who was fifth in 4:29.09, missed by less than two seconds her second regional-qualifying time of the season.

Ashley Hearn had the only other impact on the Aggies' career charts on Saturday, vaulting three spots on the shot put list with her fourth-place mark of 44 feet, 4.25 inches. The mark is a career-best by almost two feet, eclipsing the 42-06.75 she had earlier this season.

Hearn also barely missed a PR in the discus. Her effort of 155-04 was just five inches shy of her career-best which also her No. 4 all-time at UC Davis.

The Aggie men's 4x100 relay was also a winner on Saturday, timed in a season-best 41.25.

Besides Wilright's runner-up finish in the 400, the Aggie men had second-place showings from Ethan Ostrom in the pole vault (16-00.75), Ed Orgon in the shot put (49-03.50) and Jake Fuller in the discus (156-03).

UC Davis will return to action next Saturday with the Woody Wilson Classic, its final home meet of the season.
