SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Davis posted five top-five finishes on Friday at Sacramento State as the Aggie men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Hornet Stadium.

Several field events as well as men's and women's 5,000-meter runs were held on Friday with the bulk of the running events and the balance of the field competion scheduled for Saturday.

The Aggies' top-five performances all came from the men's team which had a majority of UC Davis' competitors on Friday.

Ray Green and Josh Sandler led the way, each finishing third. Green had a wind-aided mark of 23 feet, 2 inches in the long jump while Sandler went 15-11 in the pole vault. Sandler tied Montana's Keith Webber and Blair Willingford of Sacramento State for the event's best mark but finished third due to misses.

Ethan Ostrom took fourth in the pole vault at 15-5 while Robert Neely was fourth in the long jump at 22-11.75. Calvin Thigpen rounded out the top-five performances, earning fifth in the 5,000 with a time of 14:38.31.

Shannon Harcus crossed the finish line of the 5,000 in 17:27.85 to lead the Aggie women while Kristine Lozoya (17:49.57) was 12th.

Competition continues on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. with field events and 11 a.m. with running events.
