SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The UC Davis women's 4x100-meter relay lowered its school record on Saturday while Alycia Cridebring moved to the program's No. 2 spot in the 1,500 as the Aggies finished third at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento State.

UC Davis scored 121 points in the eight-team field, only finishing behind BYU (155) and Sacramento State (147). The Aggie men, led by Ethan Ostrom's win in the pole vault, finished with 57 points and placed fifth.

UC Davis' short relay of Leslie Reed, Ashley Marshall, Cekarri Nixon and Melanise Chapman owned the school record of 45.26 seconds which it set at the Hornet Invitational in March. The Aggies returned to the same track and lowered it further, winning the event on Saturday in 45.18.

They currently have the fastest time in the Big West and are ranked 32nd nationally.

Cridebring provided another outstanding mark for UC Davis with her second-place finish in the 1,500. She crossed in 4:21.44, moving her from No. 5 on the Aggies' all-time list to No. 2, just ahead of current volunteer assistant coach Kim Conley (4:22.17). Suzy Jones set the school record in 1995, going 4:19.94.

Sophomore Katie Fry added another solid PR in the event on Saturday with her fourth-place time of 4:22.68 that vaulted her from No. 9 to No. 5 all-time.

Ostrom, the school-record holder in the pole vault (17-06.50), cleared 17-feet for the second time this year with a season-best mark of 17-02.75. He led a strong 1-2 finish for UC Davis which picked up a career-best tying 16-10.75 from Mike Petersen. It was Petersen's best mark this season. He's ranked No. 4 on the Aggies' career list.

"The three days of competition at the Mondo meet allowed us to see a huge portion of our roster in action," said head coach Drew Wartenburg. "We were able to put some athletes in non-primary events for a change while also having some other keys performers return to competition.

"While the emphasis this weekend was ultimately on purely competing for place and for points, a number of folks turned out PR performances or ones that show a great deal of consistency from week to week," he added.

The Aggie women completed a sweep of the relays when they finished their day by capturing the 4x400 in 3:43.67. Nixon, Tonie Williams, Sarah Griffith and Shanie Landen comprised the winning quartet, turning in a season-best time.

Marshall provided the third win for UC Davis, capturing the 100 in 11.64 seconds a week after setting the school record of 11.55 at Arizona State. Chapman was a close third, crossing in 11.71.

Landen earlier finished second in the 800 in 2:08.08 and delivering UC Davis eight points in the team standings. It was one of 12 top-five finishes for the Aggies on Saturday.

Karl Moran turned in the best time in the 400 for the Aggie men this spring, placing third in 48.51 while Corey Hobbs was fifth in 49.04, the second-fastest time on the team this season. Hobbs later teamed with Kaio Sena, Lawrence Doherty and Cody Nguyen to finish third in the meet-concluding 4x400.

The host Hornets won the meet while Utah State and Montana State rounded out the top three.

"Next weekend we'll send a select group to Mt. SAC while also hosting the Woody Wilson Classic, two meet environments that again offer a wealth of competitive scenarios," said Wartenburg.

The Woody Wilson Classic, a longtime fan favorite of Picnic Day activities on campus, will take on a new look this year. The high school portion of the meet has traditionally been held on Friday while the university/open sections were featured on Saturday. This year, the meets will be combined and spread among the two days with both the high school and university/open competitors sharing center stage on both Friday and Saturday.
