WALNUT, Calif. - Raquel Lambdin beat 103 competitors to win the university/open 800-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, posting a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 6.47 seconds to move up the UC Davis women track and field team's all-time list.

Marcus Johnson helped lead the Aggie men, crossing the finish line of the 100 in a career-best time of 10.59 seconds which jumped him on that UC Davis list. He also nearly picked up another PR in the 200, coming just .01 of a second shy with his time of 21.37.

The two Aggies were part of a large contingent of UC Davis athletes that opened competition at the the prestigious meet that annually attracts some of the top collegiate and open competitors from throughout the country.

Christine Hoffmann added a late-night highlight, finishing second in her section of the 5,000 in a career-best 16:30.46, debuting her at No. 5 on the program's all-time list. That race ended after 11:10 p.m.

Lambdin, who entered the meet No. 3 on the Aggies' all-time 800 ledger with a time of 2:07.54, cut more than a second off that time with her first-place finish. She edged Seattle Pacific's McKayla Fricker (2:06.85) in her heat and unattached runner Elise Cranny (2:06.61) who was in the previous heat. She moved past teammate Shanie Landen for No. 2 on UC Davis' list and now only trails Lauren Wallace who went 2:02.91 at the NCAA Finals last year.

The Aggie women also got a strong mark from their 4x400 relay of Landen, Ashley Marshall, Holly Miller and Rochelle Nadreau which moved to third all-time with its fourth-place time of 3:40.89. It's the quartet's fastest time this season.

Johnson took second in his heat of the university/open 100, barely trailing Kailo Moore of Ole Miss (10.58). He was 29th overall, beating his previous-best time of 10.68 and moving from ninth-place all-time at UC Davis into a tie for fifth. Johnson is currently third on the 200 list with a time of 21.36 from last week's meet at Arizona State, and nearly beat that on Friday, crossing the finish line in 21.37.

UC Davis had seven other top-20 placings on Friday. For the men, Brandon Greenberg was 17th in the shot put (54-5.25) and Karl Moran took 19th in the 400 hurdles (53.18). Cekarri Nixon was 10th in the 400 (54.32) for the Aggie women, Praise Adesida placed 11th in the shot put (46-5.5), Catherine Lie was 15th in the triple jump (38-9.75) and Landen took 18th in the 800 (2:08.59). The 4x100 relay of Marshall, Miller, Nixon and Leslie Reed finished second in 45.55.

Adesida also picked up a nice PR in the discus with her toss of 157-1, an improvement of nearly three feet that also solidifies her No. 5 all-time spot at UC Davis.

UC Davis will finish up competition at the Mt. SAC Relays with races in the invitational sections on Saturday while also sending a contingent of athletes to the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State.
