AZUSA, Calif. / LONG BEACH, Calif. —
Junior jumpers and Ventura, Calif., natives Erinn Beattie and Thomas Grossman each broke records in the heptathlon and decathlon, the first of two breaking both the heptathlon record with 5,387 points and the women’s high jump with a 1.84/6-0.50 measurement, while the latter beat his personal record in the decathlon by 400 points with his new 6,986 score, highlighting the action that took place at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

Beattie’s heptathlon score of 5,387 placed her in 10th at the Bryan Clay Invite; however, that mark currently places her in the top spot in the UC Davis record book, besting Anikia Jackson’s 5,125 mark earned at the 2010 Big West Multi-Event Championships.

The Buena High School alumna also broke her own high jump record by 0.04m with a 1.84m/6-0.50 leap. This new high jump record not only marks the top of the Big West performance list, but it is also a top five measurement in the nation as of right now.

Grossman also made significant personal strides with his first-place decathlon score of 6,896 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and he also garnered the top finishing marks in the decathlon’s long jump and discus throw with measurements of 6.87m/22-6.50 and 36.19m/118-8.00, respectively, as well as the decathlon’s 1500 run with a time of 4:30.18. The Ventura High School alum’s final score in the decathlon places him in both the first-place spot on the Big West performance list the fifth-place spot in Aggie history.

Senior Drake Foote and junior Kyle Clancy also participated in the men’s decathlon, finishing in 10th and 11th with close final scores of 6,529 and 6,524, respectively. Among the three UC Davis decathlon student-athletes’ individual marks, Foote led the Aggie contingent in the decathlon’s javelin with a 53.16m/.174-5.00 throw, which earned himself a spot in third place, while Clancy led in the Aggies with a first place decathlon high jump of 2.13m/6-11.75, and a second place 110 hurdles with a time of 14.69.

Meanwhile, the Aggies also sent throwers Cody Holt, Michael Pertusati, Garrett Burrow, Greg Richardson, and Breanna Standifer to Long Beach State’s Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, which took place at the Jack Rose Track on Thursday afternoon.

To highlight the action that took place at this event, Holt led the UC Davis team of three in the men’s hammer throw with a 16th place, 53.72m/176-3.00 measurement, while Standifer finished her run at this event with a 21st place finish in the women’s discus with a 45.36m/148-6.00 throw, and a 37th place finish in the women’s shot put with a12.64m/41-5.75m throw.
