FRESNO, Calif. - UC Davis men garnered five top-five finishes on Saturday while Stephanie Marks paced the women with a third-place in the high jump and Emily Azevedo lowered her school record in the 100-meter hurdles, as both Aggie teams placed in the top 10 at the Cal-Nevada Track and Field Championships at Fresno State.
Cal State Northridge won the men's title with 157 points as UC Davis finished seventh with 47 points. The host Bulldogs tallied 125.5 points to capture the women's championship while the Aggies scored 39.5 and took eighth.
Azevedo nearly lowered the school record in the hurdles at last weekend's Woody Wilson Classic but her time of 14.14 seconds was wind-aided, negating it for record purposes. On Saturday, however, she finished seventh in 14.26, eclipsing her mark of 14.27 set last season.
Marks was the only Aggie woman to finish among the top five in an event final on Saturday, tying her season-best in the high jump at 5 feet, 5.75 inches and placing third.
UC Davis had five top-five showings on the men's side, including two by Ryan Frank. Frank finished fourth in the shot put at 54-10 and duplicated the placing the discus at 166-7. While he finished sixth in the hammer, he did jump from No.10 to No.6 on the program's all-time list with his effort of 189-1.
Chris Chisam also moved up a top 10 list at UC Davis, jumping two spots to No.7 in the javelin when he placed fourth at 193-1. Chisam's brother, Matt, also had a fourth-place finish for the Aggies, setting a season-best mark in the pole vault at 15-7.
Josh Flexman qualified for both the 100 and 200 finals but only ran the 100 on Saturday, placing fifth in 10.94 seconds.
The Aggie women had several solid placings on Saturday, including a sixth-place by Jessica Lorson, who improved her career-best time in the 400 hurdles to 1:02.73, solidifying her No.10 position on the program's all-time list.
Also for UC Davis on Saturday, Kim Beeson was sixth in the 800 (2:16.63), Jade Myles was sixth in the triple jump (36-7.5), Seante Baker placed seventh in the 400 (56.94), Rochelle Carter was seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:02.83) and Kim Gleeson placed eighth in the shot put (42-2.75)
UC Davis also sent distance competitors to the Oregon Invitational, Kim Conley was 17th in the top section of the 5,000 at 17:38.60 while Michelle Solone was fourth in the second section at 17:32.82. Matt See was 10th in the 800 at 1:56.83 to pace the Aggie men.
UC Davis returns to action next weekend at Cardinal Invitational at Stanford.
