BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior Morgan Bertsch set a UC Davis women’s high jump record while junior sprinter Jazmen Bunch hit a pair of school top-five marks to highlight Aggie action at the Brutus Hamilton Challenge collegiate track & field meet at Cal’s Edwards Stadium Saturday.

Bertsch cleared the bar at 1.78 meters, or 5 feet, 10 inches, on the second attempt. She edged Sacramento State’s Candice Dominguez, who hit the same mark but finished second based on attempts. Coincidentally, the previous benchmark of 1.76 meters was first set by Katie Barber at the same facility during the 2015 Cal Opener. Current Aggie Erinn Beattie had since matched that mark twice. This is just the third meet of the year for Bertsch, who did not join the team until her women’s basketball season concluded.

Bunch ran a 11.79 in the women’s 100-meter dash, good for third in the meet and fifth in school history. Her only faster time is the 11.76 set while a freshman at San Diego State. Bunch followed with a PR of 23.92 in the 200, edging teammate Natsumi McGee (24.00) for the meet win and moving herself two spots to No. 4 in the UC Davis outdoor record book.

McGee won that 100 with a time of 11.70, tying the PR that already has her third in school history. Freshman Kierra Davis finished second at 11.77, improving on her previous best by one hundredth of a second. Davis already ranks fourth in the Aggie record book.

On the men’s side, Steven Childs posted a wind-aided 7.37m (24-2.25) to place second in the long jump. His best wind-legal jump of the meet was a 7.33m (24-0.75), tying the PR that lists him ninth in UC Davis history.

Besides Bertsch, Bunch and McGee, UC Davis picked up individual wins in two other men’s events. Defending Big West Field Athlete of the Week Drew Xandrine-Anderson captured the triple jump at 15.26m, or 50-0.75. That represents his fourth time breaking the 50-foot barrier this season – a feat only five Aggies had achieved entering the year.

Additionally, sophomore Kyle Clancy bested the nine-man field in the high jump with his winning effort of 2.03m (6-8). Clancy also placed fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles as part of a busy day.

The Brutus Hamilton meet took place during twodays, with an open and distance carnival portion on Friday and the invitational "Challenge" portion on Saturday.

UC Davis returns to action for another split-squad weekend, with Stanford’s Payton Jordan Invitational (May 4), the Sacramento State Open (May 6) and the Big West Conference Multi Championships (May 5-6) on the upcoming slate.
