MODESTO, Calif. - Senior Emily Azevedo lowered her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles for the second time this season, finishing third in 14.23 on Saturday in the invitational race at the Modesto Relays, breaking her previous best of 14.26 set two weeks ago at the Cal-Nevada State Championships.

Kyle Auclair finished fifth in the invitational long jump with an effort of 23 feet, 2.75 inches, highlighting a pair of season-best performances from the Aggie men. Ryan Frank had the other, posting a mark of 171-10 in the open discus throw.

UC Davis had 12 individuals entered in the prestigious meet, which featured some of the top track and field athletes in the country. The Aggies also had a pair of relays in the event.

Azevedo, a senior from Chico, entered the season with the school record in the 100 hurdles at 14.27. She broke that record on April 23 at the Cal-Nevada Championships in Fresno when she posted a time of 14.26. A week earlier, she actually finished in 14.14 at the Woody Wilson Classic, but that time was disallowed for record-purposes because it was wind-aided.

UC Davis had five competitors on the men's side on Saturday, including Matt Chisam who was second in the invitational 110 hurdles in 14.89 and Frank, who was seventh in the invitational shot put in 54-08.75. Kajari Burns was seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 49.41 while senior Josh Flexman finished a respectable 19th in a world-class 100 field with a time of 10.73, just .03 off his personal-best.

Rochelle Carter ran the 400 for the first time this season and was fifth in the invitational race in 56.62 for the UC Davis women, just ahead of Seante Baker who was timed in 57.17. Gretchen Haussler had a strong mark of 14.55 in the 100 hurdles, Kim Gleeson was sixth in the discus throw (139-2) and Jade Myles took ninth in the long jump (17-6.75). Danielle Green, in a tough 100 race, was 11th in 12.41.

UC Davis will conclude its 2005 season next weekend when it hosts 10 schools in the NCAA Division I Independents Championships at Woody Wilson Track on Saturday and Sunday.
