FULLERTON, Calif. - Senior Rianna Goins and sophomore Kyle Clancy successfully defended their championships in the women's 800 meters and men's high jump, respectively, while senior Basil Okoroike and the women's 4x100 relay also captured individual titles, highlighting UC Davis on the final day of the Big West Conference Track & Field Championship, hosted by Cal State Fullerton Saturday.

The Aggie women finished second in the team standings with 142.7 points, just behind CSUN's winning total of 144. The UC Davis men finished sixth with 80 points, with Cal State Fullerton (133) holding off Cal Poly (128) for the team title.

Goins won the 800 with a time of two minutes, 8.83 seconds, edging UC Santa Barbara's Jenna Hinkle by a mere 0.17 for the championship. The fourth-year human development major from Anaheim Hills also had a third-place time of 4:36.02 in the 1,500 earlier in the day, providing 16 of her team's 89.5 Saturday points.

Clancy and Long Beach State's Vincent Calhoun were the only jumpers to clear 2.12 meters, or 6-feet-11.25. However, the sophomore from Davis High won the title based on attempts - he cleared the bar on the first effort. Clancy also scored three points in the 110 hurdles and provided another six from last week's decathlon, accounting for almost a fourth of the Aggie men's team scoring total.

The women's short relay of Mikaela Adolphus, Jazmen Bunch, Kierra Davis and Natsumi McGee compiled a 44.81, crossing the line ahead of second-place CSUN by just two hundredths of a second, and moving into second in school history. They become the second foursome in UC Davis outdoor annals to surpass the 45-second barrier, along with the 44.70 set by Ashley Marshall, Cekarri Nixon, Emma Redick and Holly Miller in the 2015 Causeway Classic Dual.

Okoroike captured the triple jump with a 15.72m (51-6.75) in his fifth attempt. He fouled on his first and third jumps, but his 15.37m in the second attempt advanced him to the finals. CSUN's Josh Webster led the field at 15.46m until the fifth round, when Okoroike uncorked his winning mark. The human development major from Gold River, California, nearly matched that mark in his final jump with a 15.65. This is the second career Big West title for Okoroike, who previously stood atop the podium as part of the champion 4x100 relay squad in 2014.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Adolphus, Rochelle Nadreau, Davis and Goins placed second in the 4x400 relay at 3:39.54, a mere .09 behind CSUN. Like the short relay, that time also ranks second in school outdoor history, behind only the 3:37.56 set by Nixon, Shanie Landen, Tonie Williams and Lauren Wallace four years ago. Sophomore Jordy Ceja chipped in eight second-place points for the UC Davis men, thanks to his 14:49.78 in the 5,000 meters.

The Aggie teams also had third-place finishes from Goins' aforementioned 1,500, Jordon Rushing in the men's 1,500 (3:55.89), Brian Thomas's season-best 47.33 in the 400, and Redick's 1:00.71 in the 400 hurdles.

Several Aggies hit school-historic personal records while contributing toward the team scoring. Pole vaulter Stasia Kubicki hit 3.92m (12-10.25) to finish in a tie for fourth in the event, and move into sole possession fourth in the Aggie record book. Freshman Emem Ibekwe placed seventh in the triple jump with a 11.96m (39-2.75) leap, moving herself into eighth all-time at UC Davis. Junior Morgan Dutra, coming off a huge PR in the hammer throw on Friday, came up with another career best in the discus. She fired a 51.37m (168-6.25) in her third attempt, helping her place fourth in the event and moving her ahead of Sara Oesch for fourth in school history.

UC Davis will return to action in the NCAA West Preliminary, held at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium on May 25-27. The top 48 declared student-athletes in each individual event, top 24 in multi events, and top 24 relays are accepted into the meet. The entries will be announced on the NCAA fan website (NCAA.com) during the week prior to the meet.
