SEATTLE, Wash. - After setting two school records in its last trip to the Pacific Northwest, the UC Davis women's indoor track and field team returns to Dempsey Indoor this Friday and Saturday for the challenging Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington.

Washington hosts several indoor meets throughout the winter, attracting many of the top collegiate and open athletes from throughout the country. According to Aggie coach Drew Wartenburg, the competition gets increasingly tougher for each meet.

This weekend is no different with half of the men's and women's teams ranked in the top 25 scheduled to make their way to Seattle for the meet. Many teams are beginning preparations for their conference meets and looking to qualify individuals for next month's NCAA Championships, so competition is expected to be strong, particularly in the distance events.

"Based on what we've seen so far, the meet is higher caliber and deeper," said Wartenburg. "Regardless of where we are in the heats, people are going to see good competition. As expected, this meet from top to bottom is very competitive."

Sixteen Aggies will be in action this weekend including many of the same individuals who took part in the UW Invitational two weeks ago. Sophomore Praise Adesida and senior Alycia Cridebring are among the UC Davis contingent ready for a successful return after both setting school records in their previous trip. Adesida went 48 feet, 10.25 inches in the shot put to set her mark while Cridebring took down volunteer assistant Kim Conley's record in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 9:16.39.

Adesida is entered in the shot put once again while Cridebring will race in the invitational section of the mile.

Aggie competitors are spread throughout both the track events and field events. Kellie Grigg, Ashley Marshall, Rochelle Nadreau, Cekarri Nixon and Leslie Reed will form the sprint contingent and will also help comprise the 4x400 relay while Erika Barr, Rianna Goins, Shannon Harcus, Raquel Lambdin and Shanie Landen will handle middle-distance and distance events, although Landen is also entered in the 400 and will likely run on the relay.

Freshman Holly Tokar, whose 12-6 effort in her first-ever collegiate pole vault event two weeks ago was just a half-inch off the school record, will try for that mark this weekend. Katie Barber will return to the high jump while Diamonne Mitchell and Catherine Li will compete in the long and triple jumps.

UC Davis is also entered in the distance medley.

The distance medley and the 200 will be the only events UC Davis will compete in on Friday. The meet starts at 4 p.m. and then continues on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

The Aggies will also send throwers to the Central Valley on Monday for the Run for the Dream indoor meet, hosted by Fresno State. That meet was a late add to UC Davis' indoor schedule.
